Project 3: Sketching, Typography & Visualising

Perspective

Typography

I liked the idea of wrapping text around the shape of a star, however I decided this would be awkward to read and went against the ‘no images’ part of the brief. Instead I tried to experiment more with scale and positioning in my thumbnails.

I received feedback that my white text was too small to clearly read- due to the printing process of black on white. I was also advised to make better use of strong baselines, and to check that blocks of text were properly aligned. In my improved versions I was more thoughtful about my returns and made sure not to leave and lone words at the ends of my paragraphs.

Thumbnail Visuals

I made some sketches while watching the 1945 film for Blithe Spirit. Then I went straight into thumbnailing. I wanted to have fun with the character of Elvira- the ghost wife. She is very theatrical and is central to the key dynamics of the play, so I felt she would represent the story well.

I tried to think about colour and medium while thumbnailing, but I only started to explore these fully when I selected my favourite ideas to refine.
